As part of their Enlightenment project, Greater Shantallow Community Arts will present the second of a series of art history talks by local painter and art historian, Joe Campbell. The talks are part of the same project that placed the giant Mona Lisa on the gable wall at Bloomfield Park. The Enlightenment project aims to bring art into the heart of the community with a series of giant posters, erected on billboards in the Greater Shantallow area, showing beautiful works of art from the past and the present and a series of informal complimentary talks on key moments in art history.
Following the success of his first lecture, Everything You ever wanted to Know About the History of Art but were too shy to ask, which covered a vast period of time and many artists and eras, Joe’s second lecture will focus on one artist in particular - Caravaggio. The quintessential tortured hero, Caravaggio’s life was one of tragedy and violence coupled with genius. A master of light and shade Caravaggio’s dark realism influenced art for centuries. |
